The Semeru Volcano emitted another plume of ash and/or steam on June 13, 2006. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) flying onboard NASA’s Terra satellite captured this image the same day. In this image, Semeru peeks out from under a layer of clouds. Immediately west of the cloud cover is the volcanic summit, and its plume blows off to the west. While the clouds in this image are bright white, the volcanic plume is a thin stream of dingy gray that fans out as it moves away from the volcano.
