Ulawun Volcano, on the island of New Britain, continued emitting a plume of ash and steam on May 31, 2006. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) flying onboard NASA’s Aqua satellite took this picture the same day. The volcanic plume appears as a faint gray cloud snaking westward away from the volcano. Bright white clouds also hover over the area.
