A strip of clouds cuts across fertile plains at the foothills of the Himalaya Mountains in northwest India in this Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image captured by the Aqua satellite on October 16, 2003. Across the region, MODIS detected numerous fires, which have been marked with red dots.
The high-resolution image provided above is 500 meters per pixel. The MODIS Rapid Response System provides this image at MODIS’ maximum spatial resolution of 250 meters.
