Hurricane Elida off Central America

Hurricane Elida can be seen over the western Pacific Ocean just south of Baja California in this true color image taken on July 24, 2002, by the Moderate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), flying aboard NASA’s Terra spacecraft. The hurricane was packing sustained winds of over 200 kilometers (127 miles) per hour as of 18:00 UTC on July 25, 2002. It’s expected to dwindle to a tropical storm within 18 hours.
