Good weather in early June helped firefighters keep several wildfires in Central Alaska from burning totally out of control. However, this Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from June 16, 2002, shows that the fires (red dots) are still active and producing large smoke plumes (image center).
Please note that the high-resolution scene provided here is 500 meters per pixel. For a copy of the scene at the sensor's fullest resolution, visit the MODIS Rapid Response Image Gallery.
