Fire activity north of the Amur River (black line) in eastern Russia doesn’t appear to have abated. Numerous fires continue to burn and fill the air with smoke, and large areas of vegetation appear to have been scorched (dark brown patches). This image was acquired by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on May 19, 2002.
Please note that the high-resolution scene provided here is 500 meters per pixel. For a copy of this scene at the sensor's fullest resolution, visit the MODIS Rapidfire site.
