On July 10, 2018, Tropical Storm Chris intensified off the coast of the eastern United States and became the second hurricane of the 2018 Atlantic season. At 17:35 Universal Time (1:35 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time), the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) on the Suomi NPP satellite acquired this image of the storm.
Hurricane Chris continued moving northeast over the Atlantic Ocean on July 11 as a category 2 storm on the Saffir-Simpson wind scale. Forecasters expect the storm to continue on a northeastern track and pass near Newfoundland by July 12.
