Tan clouds of dust hung over the North African coast on February 17, 2010. The dust swept north from the deserts of Libya and Egypt and over the Mediterranean Sea, extending under a bank of clouds north of the Greek island of Crete. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this photo-like image at 1:40 p.m. local time on February 17. The large image provided above is the highest resolution version of the image. The image is available in additional resolutions from the MODIS Rapid Response System.
