Haze hugged the southern slopes of the Himalaya on December 10, 2007. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite took this picture the same day. This image shows the region around Kanpur, India, with dingy gray haze blanketing the area. Multiple factors, including topography and weather, energy demand, and agricultural burning, can contribute to haze near the Himalaya in late fall and early winter.
