On May 12, 2007, a dust plume blew off the west coast of Africa, sweeping around Cape Verde toward the southeast. This storm occurred just a few days after another Saharan dust storm had passed through the region. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite took this picture on May 12. In this image, the dust plume appears as a pale beige blur that partially obscures the view of the ocean. Wispy white clouds float over the plume, casting their shadows onto the dust below.
