The skies were hazy over Bangladesh, northeastern India, and Myanmar on March 8, 2006, as the smoke from hundreds of fires rose into the air. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua detected fires (marked in red) in high concentrations in northeast India to the south of the Brahmaputra River (tan ribbon cutting across the upper left corner) as well as in the hilly terrain at the border of India and Myanmar.
