The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Aqua satellite captured this image of fires burning in North and South Korea on April 9, 2004. The fires, which are marked in red dots, may be agriculturally related. However, the peninsula has been experiencing warm spring temperatures and dry weather, so some of the fires may be unintentional. A particularly smoky fire is burning southeast of the North Korean city of Wonsan near the coast of the Sea of Japan (image right).
