After plowing across southern Florida on Thursday, August 14, a tropical depression became Tropical Storm Erika in the Gulf of Mexico. The storm moved quickly westward on Friday, and was expected to make landfall over Texas by early Saturday morning, August 16. This image of Erika was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Aqua satellite on August 14, 2003.
