A number of wildfires burning in southwestern Russia filled the skies over Moscow with a thick pall of smoke on July 30-31, 2002. This true-color scene was acquired by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), flying aboard NASA’s Terra satellite, on July 30.
